Who am I? I'm not entirely sure, myself, all the time. But, a few things are more-or-less consistent:

My parents named me Philip; possibly after my dad's uncle, possibly after the Apostle; probably not after the king of Macedon. The name comes from the Ancient Greek for "horse-lover", which I suppose is true to my nature.

I live in Nova Scotia. Or at least, I did. People still tell me this is Nova Scotia, but people tell me all kinds of things. I've been to a few places in Ontario, including Ottawa; bits of Massachusetts around Boston; Ithaca, New York; and spent one very stressful day in Narita, Japan; but, I've spent the vast majority of my life in my home province (again: assuming this isn't a giant TV set in Albania or something).

Aside from working on this website and the writings I post on it, I enjoy reading books (sometimes with words, even), music (of any genre, both listening to and playing), looking up etymologies and other random things I'm curious about, cooking and baking when the spirit moves me, watching mostly cartoons but also ostensibly live-action movies and shows, playing video games, spending quality time with a cat that is not technically mine, and otherwise doing my best to withstand the pressure of the world and keep the madness at bay.

I have an acoustic guitar, two ukuleles (one concert, one baritone), a plectrum banjo, and an electric bass guitar. I can play them all well enough to get by, but don't practise often enough to be especially good. But, I know my chords really well, and mostly enjoy my instruments as accompaniment to my singing. That ability is perhaps my most cherished gift, though I wish I were better about using my breath properly.

I have an ability to accurately mimic different accents (once, I read "To a Mouse" at a Burns Night, and was told a Scottish woman in attenance said I sounded like an Edinburgher). I don't do this much anymore, because people either found it annoying or loved it and would make requests, which I found annoying.

My favourite colour is purple (obvs); my second-favourite is green. My favourite condiment is mustard. My favourite French word is "licorne".

When I was five, I wanted to be a paleontologist; when I was 15, I wanted to be a rock star; when I was 25 I wanted to be a teacher; when I first read "The Fountainhead" I wanted to be an architect; now I want to be a househusband, but mostly worry it's too late for me to be anything.

If identity politics are your thing, I'm pansexual, gender-questioning, too poor to be officially autistic (but, I mean, is there any doubt?), a social anarchist, and I guess also a furry. But, like all of us, I'm just a little guy trying to make sense of a chaotic universe, and avoid filling in forms with any of the above. They are sometimes helpful reference points when describing myself to others, though.

In the quite unlikely event you'd like to know more, you can reach me by e-mail. Or you could tell me all about yourself. I'd like that, since I'm very bad at asking personal questions. Then maybe we could be friends? I'd like that, too. Until then....
